Martin Garrix Finds a More Personal Sound With ‘This Dream Of You’

Martin Garrix has spent years creating moments designed for tens of thousands of people.

Now he appears increasingly interested in showing the person behind those moments.

His new track “This Dream Of You” features Garrix on vocals, continuing a more personal musical direction that began earlier in 2026 with “Catharina”. DJ Mag

The first major clue arrived at Tomorrowland.

Rather than simply dropping the song somewhere in the middle of his set, Garrix used an early version as an intro, allowing its melodic character to open one of the year’s most important festival performances. DJ Mag

Later, he shared footage of himself singing the track while playing guitar.

That image is far removed from the huge LED screens, fireworks and enormous drops normally associated with a Martin Garrix headline show.

And that contrast is what makes the track particularly interesting.

Progressive and melodic dance music has always depended on emotion as much as energy. The records that survive beyond a festival season are often those capable of working both in front of a giant crowd and through headphones when the crowd is gone.

Garrix singing his own material brings an additional layer of vulnerability to that formula.

It follows “Catharina”, his first solo-vocal release, and comes during an extremely productive period that has also included high-profile collaborations with U2, Madonna and Ed Sheeran. Martin Garrix | Official Website

Whether Garrix eventually develops this into a major part of his sound remains to be seen.

But hearing one of the biggest festival DJs in the world step away from the traditional producer-vocalist formula makes this new chapter worth following.

Sometimes evolution starts not with a bigger drop, but with a quieter voice.
